This feature helps streamline complex routing, enable cross-dock workflows, and improve visibility without needing to rebuild the order manually.
Description Summary
When managing a shipment within an order, splitting a leg allows you to insert a transfer point—ideal for handoffs, driver swaps, or cross-docking. The split occurs within the order’s Task Tree and automatically creates new stops and tasks.

How It Works
-
Open an Order
-
Click on "Tasks" in the Navigation Panel.
- Group by Legs
Switch from Group by Stops to Group by Legs. -
Locate the Leg You Want to Split
Find the pickup and delivery leg you want to divide (e.g., for a mid-route transfer). -
Click “Split Leg”
Click on the three-dot menu associated with that leg to see the split leg option. -
Define the Split Point
Enter the location details where the leg should be divided and save. This will serve as the transfer point between Leg 1 and Leg 2. -
Assign Resources to Each Leg
Click on the leg to open the Data Panel. Assign appropriate drivers and assets to both Leg 1 and Leg 2 to ensure accurate dispatching and tracking.
What Happens When You Split a Leg?
-
Leg 1 will include a Pickup and Unload task.
-
Leg 2 will include a Load and Delivery task.
-
Commodities are automatically carried from Leg 1 to Leg 2.
-
Driver and asset assignments do not carry over—you must assign them manually.
Use Case Examples
-
A dispatcher splits a shipment to hand it off at a terminal.
-
A planner splits legs in the Task Tree to track a relay delivery between two drivers.
-
A fleet manager adjusts a load for cross-docking, assigning different drivers and trucks to each leg.
Best Practices
-
Use consistent naming for transfer stops to maintain clarity (e.g., “Kansas Crossdock”).
-
Review the order Task Tree after splitting to ensure tasks were created as expected.
-
Use Task Tree splits for routing flexibility when editing a single order manually.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Why doesn't the driver carry over to the second leg?
Because Leg 2 may require a different driver for the completion of the delivery.
Can I undo a leg split in the Task Tree?
Yes, click on the three-dot menu associated with that leg to see the unsplit option. This is only doable if the previous leg has not been assigned or completed.
